Aiye is a part of the "PGC Presents" line, a curated selection of games which are harder to find, recommended by us, and are the releases of a fellow independent publishing company or designer that we respect. "PGC Presents" is a project to boost the signal of other creators that we love to support and think others might as well.

Aiye is a release from Brazilian publisher, Grok Games. Portland Game Collective has nothing to do with the release or production of this game. We stock this game in an effort to help a fellow indie game company, Grok Games, get their releases to a wider audience.

Description from Boardgamegeek:

Àiyé brings a fresh look at one of the oldest board game mechanisms, the Mancala. On each turn, players sow their energy seeds by playing Mancala on their personal columns of cards. They will activate the abilities of a column of cards they have picked their energy seeds up from. During the game players will have opportunities to expand and improve their columns by buying new cards from the village, a market of cards available to all players on their turn. These cards will help further build an even more unique Mancala board full of endless combinations and synergies.

Each player's turn is divided in 3 phase: Sow, Column Activation and Village. Sowing is the Mancala mechanism that allows players to choose which of their card columns will be activated. To Sow, players pick up all energy seeds from one card column and add one seed to each space below each of the following columns, building bigger and better future actions dependent on where energy seeds are left.

In the Village phase, a player's energy seeds may be spent to purchase new cards, either character or masks. Cards grant columns different abilities, such as gaining more energy seeds to play Mancala or use as currency in the village, rearranging cards or seeds within a player's card columns, and blocking other players' columns from activating. Mask cards will reward points at the end of the game based on different scoring conditions.

A game of Àiyé ends when any player gains a fourth Mask card from the Village or if a player has 18 cards in their play area at the end of a round. Whoever built and managed their Mancala tableau and sowed their energy seeds best will be the winner.
